Welcome to Ride 2 The Rock (R2TR)

Well here we are, T minus 24 days from blast off and counting. For those of you who are unaware of exactly what’s happening, starting May 18th, let me fill you in…

Last year a group of friends came together to figure out a way of supporting a work colleague, Beatrice Ruiz, that had unfortunately fallen ill with cancer. As many of us were avid cyclists the idea began to slowly form that a multi-day endurance ride in support of a cancer oriented charity would be an ideal way to raise awareness and funds. After countless journey ideas as far-reaching as crossing the Nullarbor and as tame as a ride from Melbourne to Adelaide it was decided to plot out a journey 1,600km+ beginning in Adelaide, SA and finishing in Uluru, NT approx 11 – 12 days later.

Not long after reaching a decision on the outline for the ride Beatrice sadly passed in late 2008. Whilst it was a sad time for us all it did nothing more than affirm our commitment to the project and to making it a success. Now, less than a month away from when the real hard work begins (riding 160km/day is no cake walk) we’re very proud to be launching the Ride 2 The Rock (R2TR) website.

The website will be continuously updated to showcase the lead up to the ride. The cyclists Shaun & Gavan will also be journaling their experience on the ride daily. We’re aiming to make the entire adventure as fun and interesting as possible to both raise funds but more importantly to celebrate the wonderful memories we have of Beatrice.

To keep yourself up to date with everything that’s going on with R2TR you might want to follow us on Twitter or subscribe to our RSS feed.
